In its latest semi-annual report to Congress, the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) details its healthcare fraud prevention activities and a continuing focus on eliminating waste, inefficiencies, and improper conduct within the federal healthcare system. Covering the period from October 2013 to March 2014, the report reiterates previous concerns about the integrity of EHR systems and the operations of Medicare Administrative Contractors.

Healthcare Professionals Did You Know? Non-hospital-based physicians and other eligible professionals can obtain incentive payments of as much as $44,000 under Medicare or $63,750 under Medicaid. Under both Medicare and Medicaid, eligible hospitals may receive millions of dollars for implementing and meaningfully using certified EHR technology.



About two-thirds (65 percent) of hospitals and 32 percent of office-based physicians plan to enroll in meaningful use programs by the end of 2012 in order to receive the maximum incentives, according to survey results announced Thursday morning. Fewer federal dollars will be available to hospitals and doctors that wait to adopt EHR technology, and failure to meaningfully use EHRs starting in 2015 will result in Medicare penalties. Ruckus reportedly catches Google's eye

Ruckus Wireless (RKUS) may be a beneficiary of Google's reported plan to subsidize Wi-Fi for small and medium businesses. Google is reportedly trialling the Ruckus Virtual SmallCell Gateway, a cloud-based Wi-Fi controller that works with Ruckus Wi-Fi hotspots. Ruckus would not confirm that report, but did say that its cloud-based controller is currently in the hands of a number of managed service providers around the world. The solution can support 10,000 access points and hundreds of thousands of clients.

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Federal Communications Commission says Sprint will pay $7.5 million in the largest Do Not Call settlement to date for making unwanted telemarketing calls and sending texts to consumers.
The FCC said Monday that Sprint will also put a two-year plan in place to make sure it complies with commission requirements designed to prevent people from receiving unwanted marketing calls. The settlement follows an earlier one in 2011 in which Sprint paid $400,000 due to similar complaints.

SEOUL, May 19 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's tech giant, Samsung Electronics Co., took 71 percent of the global market for smartwatches in the first quarter of 2014, data showed Monday.
Samsung shipped 500,000 units of smartwatches over the first three months of this year, according to tech industry watcher Strategy Analytics. It was an increase from Samsung's market share of 52.4 percent in 2013, when it sold 1 million units around the globe.
